Ryan Twomey
In remembrance of Prof. Arthur Chou

I just heard the news that a former professor of mine has passed away.  I just sent an email to a few contacts I keep in touch with since school, and I thought I’d list a couple of the highlights:

  • He was the faculty sponsor of my computer game development club, and I couldn’t have gotten it started without his leadership and help.
  • When he was starting the bioinformatics concentration, I was auditing the first class he taught.  Even though I had an over-the-top courseload, I just had to check out the class because he was teaching it.
  • He taught an advanced databases course, and it was one of his machines that became our department webserver.  Had he not bought the quirkiest of computers he could find, I never would have learned everything I know about filesystems, RAID, and LVM.
He will be greatly missed.
