ActiveMerchant is about as easy as it gets

I’ve been deeply involved in a lot of ActiveMerchant code lately, and I have to say, I’m quite pleasantly surprised with how well it’s integrated with various payment gateways.  In the past, I’ve done some AM using PayPal as the gateway (a client I was working with needed the Website Payments system implemented, and a separate project required the WPP, both from PayPal).  I knew how to implement the system I wanted using the PayPal infrastructure, but was nervous when it came to other providers.  Not anymore.

Lately, a project I’m involved in needed credit-card processing through a different merchant, and Braintree was selected.  I’ve been very happy with how easy it was to integrate with their system (even taking advantage of their SecureVault service), which makes me much more confident in the library.  And it’s nice to know that we’re not locked in with a particular vendor (at least, from a technical perspective).  When I finish up this project, I hope to have a whole bunch of postmortems discussing how I used ActiveMerchant.  Stay tuned.
